A civil servant in Benue state has resorted to hawking groundnuts on the
streets of Makurdi to make a living.

The 46-year-old who works at Benue State Environmental Sanitation
Agency (BENSESA) had to resort to selling groundnut to take care of his family.

Godwin Oga revealed that he started selling groundnut on the streets in
June because he was unable to provide food for his family.

The father of three also revealed that the government has not paid
him salary for months.

He said: “I have so far spent 15 years in service with BENSESA and
have also been screened

in the ongoing state government screening exercise. I started this
groundnut business earlier

in June this year to prevent hunger and starvation of my family and
to buy medications.”

Oga explained that he has been working non-stop even though
some people make jest of him for making a living by selling groundnut.

He added that he advised some of his colleagues in the same situation to seek other means to earn a living.

It was gathered that the Benue state government owed state workers
up to five months salary and eight months for local government workers. l
